Sailboat Cruising Preparation and Navigation Training

Every year between September and December, there is a migration down the California coast to Mexico or farther south. Sailors are finally going "cruising." Their success (and enjoyment) is entirely dependent on how well they are prepared to deal with whatever Mother Nature has in store for them.

DCL is a valuable source of information for questions like these:

When should I leave?

Where do I stop along the way?

Is my anchoring gear adequate?

Do I need (radar, watermaker, liferaft, autopilot, etc.)?

What navigation skills/charts/electronics should I have?

DCL has the experience to help you plan, prepare, and navigate with confidence. If you are going cruising and you have questions, DCL has answers.

Here is an example of a current client and project:

"August Promise" (Hunter 35.5) is undergoing upgrades to change it from a "SF Bay boat" to a coastal cruising sailboat. The process has involved planning sessions (discussing cruising desires/goals, equipment upgrades, etc.), numerous "boat days" installing new or upgrading existing equipment, and custom-designed coastal navigation training classes for two clients. The short-term goal is a cruise to Southern California in the fall of 2012. The long-term goal is a cruise to Mexico.
